Exploring Life - Honors Biology Chapter 1 Microscope Familiarization

Handle the microscopes carefully.

Go through the section on the CD on microscopes. (Instructions will be provided in class).

Review scale at the FSU site. 

Question 1: When do you use the coarse focus knob on a microscope?

Question 2: When do you use the fine focus on a microscope? 

Question 3: Would a light microscope help you to see DNA?

Question 4: Why are light microscopes so important in biology? (Think about the themes of life and the scales of the universe. What scale is the microscope good at? Obviously not stars!)
